Did you know that when a septic system is replaced, either by hooking up to a centralized wastewater system or by replacing the system with a new septic system, the old system must be decommissioned?
The Province of Manitoba has guidelines for decommissioning a septic system. Decommissioning of a septic tank or holding tank is mandatory, however the field component may be left dormant. If it is determined that the field component should be removed, then the guidelines provided by the province for that purpose must be followed.
Systems must be decommissioned within 60 days of being replaced. The system decommissioning must be reported to the appropriate authorities within 7 days of decommissioning.
